Global Sustainable Farming Challenges

Driven by a relentlessly increasing human population – the demand for proteins is set to increase by 60% by 2050.

Current farming systems and production of conventional protein sources already put tremendous pressure on our environment – contributing to depletion of already stressed wild fish stocks, deforestation and water stresses.

The Solution

As well as a more widespread switch to plant-based diets by consumers, new farming methods are required to meet the protein challenge sustainably.

1.3 billion tons of agricultural by-products and food waste is produced throughout the global food supply chain each year much of which ends up in landfill creating dangerous GHG emissions which contribute significantly to global warming.

Highly automated cloud connected, renewable energy powered insect farms can produce low cost protein by upcycling useful organic waste.

FlyFarm Sustainability Goals

UN Sustainability Goals

Responsible Consumption and Production

FlyFarm upcycles nutrients from local organic and agricultural waste to produce insect protein products that can be used as ingredients in animal feed, enhancing the sustainability of food supply chains.

Climate Action

Research suggests processing waste through insect bioconversion generates up to 90% less green-house gasses compared to landfill or composting. Additionally, using insects as feed locally saves up to 50% of CO2 emissions compared to the import of soy or fishmeal.

Life on Land

Our insect farms are highly automated vertical farms. From an environmental standpoint, insect rearing requires less area to produce 1 kg of protein compared to conventional protein production.

Life below Water

25% of wild-caught fish is currently used to produce fishmeal, an ingredient widely used in fish feeds for the rapidly growing aquaculture industry. Insect meal provides a more sustainable alternative with the potential to halt further depletion of fish stocks in our oceans.

Zero Hunger

FlyFarm aims to produce protein sustainably and cheaply. Our aim is to assist in the reduction of global hunger and protein poverty.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

By working with agricultural businesses, food processors, food and drink manufacturing companies to upcycle their waste - FlyFarm can help companies improve their sustainability. Bringing environmental benefits to cities and communities.
